Wednesday Word: “Your Fruit Will Help You Discern Bad Fruit in Others” – Jerry Flowers, Jr.

For this Wednesday Word, in one of his messages, Pastor Jerry Flowers, Jr. shared the importance of being able to discern good character (or “fruit”) in other people who are in (or are trying to enter) your life. Galatians 5:22-23 talks about the fruit of the Spirit, key attributes that should be reflected in the lives of believers. Those are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control

Some people talk a mean game of believing in God but don’t truly walk as God has called us to live, particularly with these characteristics. I struggle with some of these still myself, but there is a difference between struggling with these on occasion and not even trying to tackle them. Now before you say “Only God can judge me,” that’s a Tupac Shakur song, not the Bible. There is such a thing as righteous judgment amongst believers (John 7:24) and it’s important to have discernment over who you allow into your life.

Palm Sunday: Be A Follower of Jesus and Not Just a Fan (VIDEO)

It’s Palm Sunday, which is the day Jesus made his triumphant entry into Jerusalem as depicted in the Gospels (Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-40, and John 12:12-19) I’ll be honest with y’all, though I always had a bit of a qualm about Palm Sunday, because the Jews were praising Jesus, shouting “Hosanna, Hosanna!” that day. Less than a week later, it was “Crucify Him!”

Now understandably, everything that happened HAD to happen for Jesus to fulfill His mission to die and rise from the dead for our sins. But still…those people were FICKLE! But then again…I’ve been too. My pastor broke it down in his Palm Sunday sermon this year, and he reminded me that this is a prime example of why it’s important to be a FOLLOWER of Jesus and not just a fan.

Worship Song: “More Than Able”-Elevation Worship (feat. Chandler Moore & Tiffany Hudson)

“When did I start to forget all of the great things You did?
When did I throw away faith for the impossible?
How did I start to believe You weren’t sufficient for me?
Why do I talk myself out of seeing miracles?”

Though your girl is more a fan of gospel music and Christian R&B/rap, I’ve been listening to a few songs from Elevation Worship and Maverick City Music. One song from Elevation, “More Than Able” (featuring Chandler Moore & Tiffany Hudson), has been hitting a little harder than others right now.

This song is all about trusting that God is literally more than able to handle any situation that we are dealing with. If we look over our lives, we can find clear examples where God has shown up for us time and time again. But sometimes we let our circumstances overshadow that truth.

Wednesday Word: “You Have to Stand For Your Faith”-CeCe Winans

Had to share this Wednesday Word from the legendary CeCe Winans! Though this gifted individual is known for her vocals, she is also a co-pastor at Nashville Life Church in Nashville, TN, and preaches the Word of God. Most importantly, she is a Christian who stands ten toes down on the importance of righteousness, believing the age-old church adage that “Holiness is STILL RIGHT!”

That is clear in this video clip from her speaking at the Generations Live Conference in 2023.

Wednesday Word: “Trust that God is a Good God”-Chrystal Evans Hurst

This Wednesday Word from Christian author Chrystal Evans Hurst is a reminder that we can indeed trust God with our lives, knowing that He is not trying to set us up for ultimate failure.

We also need to practice gratitude for what we have been blessed with, instead of focusing so much on what we don’t have, knowing that God has a reason for everything. We have to trust that God is indeed a good God Who knows exactly what He’s doing, even when we don’t understand.
