Wednesday Word: “Your Fruit Will Help You Discern Bad Fruit in Others” – Jerry Flowers, Jr.

For this Wednesday Word, in one of his messages, Pastor Jerry Flowers, Jr. shared the importance of being able to discern good character (or “fruit”) in other people who are in (or are trying to enter) your life. Galatians 5:22-23 talks about the fruit of the Spirit, key attributes that should be reflected in the lives of believers. Those are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control

Some people talk a mean game of believing in God but don’t truly walk as God has called us to live, particularly with these characteristics. I struggle with some of these still myself, but there is a difference between struggling with these on occasion and not even trying to tackle them. Now before you say “Only God can judge me,” that’s a Tupac Shakur song, not the Bible. There is such a thing as righteous judgment amongst believers (John 7:24) and it’s important to have discernment over who you allow into your life.

GODFIRMATION: God is a Protector

These Godfirmations are always great to write because they are reminders of the unchanging attributes and heart of God. That’s why it’s so important to stay in the Word because we begin to really KNOW God and walk with Him throughout our lives.

As we encounter various situations in life, we can rest assured that God is a keeper and a protector. There are many people in the Bible who saw that firsthand – including King David, who wrote Psalm 138.

Christian Rap Track: “Any Weapon Formed” – Young C

“The enemy mad…I know he tried to stop you before. But tell him this: ‘God said, I can do all things through Christ.’ Won’t let him tell me what is not my life…”

I’m getting back into featuring some Christian music for your playlists. One of my favorite newer Christian rappers is Young C! He’s a great artist that y’all should check out, and his song “Any Weapon Formed” is a track y’all should have on your Christian R&B and Rap playlists!

The song’s message really speaks to the goodness of God in that “no weapon formed against you shall prosper.” I love this track because it’s a reminder that the phrase is BIBLICAL. And God will stand on it.

GODFIRMATION: God Directs Our Steps

This Godfirmation hailing from Proverbs 3:5-6  is a familiar one, but one that I think we often forget or don’t really walk in like we claim. It’s an easy passage to remember because it’s quoted often, but how many of us really trust God to direct our steps FULLY?

This Godfirmation hailing from Proverbs 3:5-6  is a familiar one, but one that I think we often forget or don’t really walk in like we claim. It’s an easy passage to remember because it’s quoted often, but how many of us really trust God to direct our steps FULLY? If we are truly going to follow  God, we have to trust Him to guide our steps in every area of our lives – career, home, love, finances, etc.

The problem is the trust part. Because it requires you to let go of what you think you know, what things look like on the outside, and what you feel is best for you. When we begin to trust God, it can mean saying yes or no to things that, from an outsider’s perspective, look incredibly dumb or risky. But we don’t move by the world’s standards. We move by God’s.

GODFIRMATION: God is the Source of Our Joy

I love today’s Godfirmation! Psalm 16:11, a verse in a chapter written by David, reminds us that God should be the Source of our joy in life.

Spiritually, joy is a fruit of the Spirit that believers should possess (check Galatians 5:22-23). We should have joy not because of any special life circumstances or achievements, but because we have GOD. In fact, in spite of whatever is happening, we can still have joy knowing that God will still keep us through it all.
