“Yeah, I don’t wanna hear excuses I just like to make moves and make improvements I just like to break rules, maybe start some new trends Live the life that I choose, cuttin’ off the loose ends…”
I don’t remember where exactly I heard this Inspirational Jam but it was within the past few months. Immediately, rapper NF‘s track “No Excuses” made its way on both my Work Hustle and Fitness playlists on my iPhone. And for good reason.
On the track, NF raps about his own life and career, as well as working with other people. The gist of the song is that there is literally no excuse to not give your all in whatever field you choose or goal you set for yourself. Which we all know right? But sometimes we need a reminder. This track will do it.
Sometimes, we like to make excuses for why we haven’t completed tasks or gotten our ideas off the ground. I used to throw around excuses a lot myself so I know, but my lack of movement often stemmed from insecurities, fears, and downright laziness. I get now that there’s no reason to not commit to doing your best in whatever place you are in life. That’s what this song reminds me of everytime I hear it. I have no excuses when it comes to my personal development, my health, my work. Neither do you. Even if you have to start small, at least start and stay on the ball.
Lord I need you to hold my hand…though I am tired, I won’t give in. I just need a second wind…”
Wanted to share this special song from gospel artist Anthony Brown and group therAPy as today’s Inspirational Jam.
The Minister of Youth and Young Adults at my church sent “2econd Wind” to me after a brief text conversation. He noticed that my vibe was off at an event we were both attending and reached out to me a few days later. I admitted that I was having a tough week, feeling very burnt out from everything I have going on. I took some time to relax and regroup, but when I listened to this song, it gave me hope and strength.
Even as a Christian and an inspirational writer, I don’t ever have it all together. I have my rough moments, my mean moments, and emotional hurdles like we all do. However, this song encouraged me especially as I continue to grow in my faith. I share it because we all have times where we need to be restored and refresh in our journeys. That’s what this song is about. I hope and pray that it blesses someone who needs it.
“In order for me to grow, I had to let go of some habits And it’s easy to say I’m on now cause you see it, and it happens But before it ever did I had to believe and get it cracking”
I love this song from the late, great Nipsey Hussle and wanted to share it as an Inspirational Jam for you all today. I hope it motivates someone going through the trenches right now on the way to their goals.
On “Bigger Than Life,” which is featured on the 2013 compilation mixtape Nip Hussle The Great: Vol. 2, Nipsey takes us through his journey as an artist and how he had to hustle to get to where he was even at that point. And it wasn’t easy. He had been making music for several years before that. He had to let go of some bad habits. He had to plan and work to find his place in the industry. The results weren’t given to him; they were earned.
This song serves as a serious motivation for me. It reminds me that it’s okay to toil and even struggle for your purpose. Nothing great comes easy. Rest in peace, Nip.
“I’m looking for the trophy, competition looking steep…but I’m training, I been focused, I been bombing from the deep..“
I love this track from Beau Young Prince. A perfect Inspirational Jam to kick off the day!
“Move The Chains” is a quick song with football references but can be applied to any hustle you have going on. The song is about being on top of your grind as you work to get to your goal (in this case, the end zone).
I actually wish it was longer, but it definitely riles me up every time I hear it. It gives me energy to work when I feel like slacking. I hope it motivates y’all today too!
“He’s got infinite possibilities…I can feel them now. If he chooses well, then nothing can tear him down.”
For today’s Inspirational Jam, I wanted to share this beautiful, calming track from Amel Larrieux!
“Infinite Possibilities” was created 20 years ago now, but its message is still relatable. The song’s focus is on a young man struggling to control his emotions which can be said for a lot of us. For me, I’ve struggled with anger issues and negative thoughts so I can really relate. For a long time, my negativity held me back from achieving more.
However, after doing some deep reflection, I saw what I needed to work on for myself. That can be done through prayer, meditation, therapy, whatever you need to do to get to a more positive place where you see a light at the end of the tunnel versus a dead end.
