GODFIRMATION: God is a Protector

Godfirmation: God is a protector

These Godfirmations are always great to write because they are reminders of the unchanging attributes and heart of God. That’s why it’s so important to stay in the Word because we begin to really KNOW God and walk with Him throughout our lives.

As we encounter various situations in life, we can rest assured that God is a keeper and a protector. There are many people in the Bible who saw that firsthand – including King David, who wrote Psalm 138.

David may have been a master musician, dancer, and writer, but the man went through it behind the scenes. Some of it by his own decisions, and some of it because of others. That includes the turmoil he went through with Saul, Israel’s first king. Out of jealousy and not wanting to relinquish his crown to David at God’s Word, Saul went on the hunt to kill David instead. And while there is some debate on just how long David was running from Saul, it was definitely for some YEARS. Years of hiding and fighting…and years of paranoia that could drive anybody out of their right mind.

The emotional turmoil David struggled with is seen in 1 and 2 Samuel as well as Psalms. David even went back and forth a bit with God but still could recognize God as his strength and refuge. Even in David’s confusion and occasional upset, God covered and protected him and his army from the wrath of Saul.

I can’t speak for y’all, but God has protected me on several different levels – yes physically, but also mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I can recall three very specific occasions on the road (almost accidents) that really could’ve taken me out of here. But God. God comforted my heart and stilled my mind as I battled through loneliness and grief. He pulled me closer to Him through others, convicted me to read the Word and pray consistently, and I grew to have a RELATIONSHIP with Him. He protected me from armed robbery, from people who didn’t have the right intent for me. He protected me from MYSELF when I was out making reckless decisions. He protected us as Christians from death from our sins! So I KNOW this Godfirmation to be true for myself.

When you look back over your life, there are certainly moments where you can see the hand of God having covered you. That is because God is certainly a protector, and He has the track record to prove it. And I’m eternally grateful.
