For over 10 years now, I have helped teach three and four-year-olds in a Christian education program called AWANA (think…Bible Study geared for kids, complete with games and snacks). One of our “Core Truths” about God that we teach these babies is that God is Creator.
And that may seem simple, but it’s one of the most powerful Godfirmations I could write about the nature of God!
Of course, Genesis 1-2 details the creation of the earth and its creatures, including man. Later, Isaiah 45 specifically predicts the coming of Persian ruler Cyrus, who God would use to deliver Israel from Babylonian captivity. Yes, God would use a pagan king for His own purpose, showing that He can do whatever He chooses using whoever He chooses. Though we may not always understand His plans and work, and may even have questions, can we really argue with the ultimate Creator? “Ask Me of things to come; will you command Me concerning my children and the work of my hands?” God said in verse 11. In verse 12, God goes on to flex a little bit on the fact that He created the earth AND mankind.
God literally created the entire heavens and earth on His own. No help. No inspiration. Just through His power. And so, I’m reminded that He’s more than capable of handling the circumstances of my life…of all of our lives! He doesn’t need our help. Our attempts to step in really showcase a lack of trust in God and an unwillingness to surrender to His plan.
If you ever need a reminder of what God is capable of, go for a walk and look around. The trees, the wildlife, and the sky above are good enough examples!
