The more I dig into studying the Bible and researching for these Godfirmations, the more I just thank God for all that He is to us as believers! This week, I had to share this particular attribute of God that I know for myself all too well — that God is a counselor that I can turn to for help in navigating this thing called life.
I love the vulnerability and transparency of the book of Psalms, particularly from David. The king went through a lot in his life…although some of it was his own fault. Like getting a married woman pregnant and then having her husband killed…but that’s another post for another time. However, David always managed to turn back to God for forgiveness and guidance, recognizing that God was truly a wise counselor Who would help direct his steps.
In Psalm 16, David asks God to cover him and keep him safe, naming the Lord as the One Who is his true refuge. Psalm 16:7-8 specifically says that God counseled David and gave him instructions on how to navigate his circumstances. “I keep my eyes always on the Lord,” David wrote in verse 8. “With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”
I am grateful for God and the gift of the Holy Spirit to turn to when I’m confused about where to go next. Now, this does not mean to not seek professional counseling on this earth. That would be very irresponsible of me to ignore the individuals God has placed here to help people heal their traumas. You CAN HAVE BOTH. But I’m glad that God Himself hears and counsels us on our steps in life!
