Wednesday Word: “Worry Is Pride”-Joyce Meyer

Joyce Meyer preaching

I don’t know about y’all but I struggle a bit with worrying. It’s been an issue that God has been working on me about in recent years. I get so wound up sometimes when difficulties come up, without remembering that I have the Creator of the entire universe on my side!

This Wednesday Word from Joyce Meyer is a tough one to hear. Because if we trust in God and His provision TRULY, then we shouldn’t be worrying. We should be giving our problems over to God, and trusting that He will show us the way to go and bring us through.

This passage from Matthew with Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount always comes to mind. A part of the sermon, Jesus talks about why we shouldn’t worry:

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”

Matthew 6:25-27

From Joyce, it’s also a point of pride because we get so focused on trying to figure out whatever problem is happening by ourselves. And when we can’t, or struggle to, we start worrying. “Really, it’s me saying, ‘If I think about this long enough, I can solve my own problem. I’m going to find the answer to this,'” Joyce shared in her message.

BUT WE HAVE GOD!

We shouldn’t try to be independent of God. If we truly believe that He is our Provider and Protector, we have to trust that He will make ways for us. All we really need to do is look back at how He’s shown up in the past. We need to work on surrendering our problems over to God instead of just trying to come up with the solutions ourselves. Asking Him to show you what to do, or where to go, or maybe even wait on Him, and trusting Him to work things out.
