Worship Song: “Idols” – Kirk Franklin

Kirk Franklin in studio

“Give Me your options…let Me be the first one you call
Now you must choose what I am to you: God of all or not God at all…”

This week has been long and tough for me, honestly. On those days, it’s vital to stay in worship and in tune with God, for sure. And I’m trying my best. This Worship Song reminded me that I have to continue to put God as the Head of everything, including my problems.

Out of the music Kirk Franklin has put out in recent years, this is one of my favorites. “Idols” was a song featured on his “Long Live Love” album. And it’s really a push for us as believers who claim to love God to let Him truly be God over every aspect of our lives.

If we’re honest, sometimes we can find ourselves turning to other things or people instead of turning to God. Especially when times get tough. Or maybe that’s just me? Nah, that can’t be just me!

This song is a reminder that God is all-powerful and all-knowing. He truly does have a plan for each of our lives, but WE have to decide truly if we’re going to let Him be God and run the show or turn to our idols for comfort (because our placing anything above God IS idolatry — Exodus 20:3-5). Our idols may not be little mini gods made of stone or metal like the Israelites, but our idols can be our family, our jobs, our music…even our own goals or, in some cases, self-pity. Because we are idolizing our needs and desires above God, His plan, and His timing

One of my favorite parts of the song? “Tell me Who’s the King of Glory and writes every one of our stories…Who knows the end before life begins
and took all our debts to the grave?”
If we truly believe that God is King of All and sent Jesus to die for our sins, then we need to believe that He can and should handle everything that we have going on (a note of encouragement right now in this moment!).

So give up all of your options and let God be the One to take over today. Whatever you’re going through, give it to Him. Let God be the One you turn to before whatever and whoever else. Let Him be God…or not God at all.

Take a listen to this powerful song below!
