Hey y’all! Wanted to share a Wednesday Word from Christian rapper Dee-1! I respect this man for standing ten toes down on his faith and righteous living. Following him has definitely been a push for me to live more righteously as God called me to and also walk with love and respect.
In this short clip from an interview, the rapper shared the importance of using our gifts how God has called us to use them. Not for our own selfishness and pride.
In the clip, Dee-1 spoke on using his gift of rapping and speaking in the way that God called him to use them. He admitted that we get so caught up with using our gifts and talents and trying to plant seeds in different places to grow in what God has given us, that we don’t choose the right places to plant. “You gotta recognize that some of the soil that you’re trying to plant those seeds on? Some of that soil is infertile,” Dee-1 shared in the clip. “Are you going to waste your life just trying to plant seeds where you wanna plant them at?”
This is partly how I felt when God was calling me to revamp Imperfectly B. I was so focused on using my gift of writing and creating wherever I could. To have a positive impact, sure, but to also make money…and sometimes that didn’t turn out so well. If God ain’t really over it, it won’t work out like how you think.
As I grew closer to God, He pushed me to be bold about my faith and start using my gifts (that He gave me in the first place) FOR HIM. And it doesn’t just have to be your career. Everyone won’t be a full-time pastor/missionary, or even a Christian rapper or writer, but we all should be reading our Bibles and praying for discernment to use our God-given gifts how and where He’s called us to!
