Words of Wisdom: “There’s No Win in the Quick Route”-Kevin Hart

This Words of Wisdom video from Kevin Hart is a reminder that there are no quick paths to accomplishing your goals.

In this clip, Kevin shares a funny but true story about how desperate times in community college almost led him to be a stripper for money. He was about to go all-in until someone checked him like “What in the world are you doing?! Nah, you ain’t about to do that. Just go out there and take your lumps.”

I’m not trying to glorify struggling but, often than not, it’s a part of the process. When you’re on your way to reaching any goal in your life, you’re going to face some rough times. We sometimes want a quick fix or an easy solution to our problems or think of a get-rich-quick scheme to bring some money in. Some of which may work for the time being but, sooner or later, they fade away. There are necessary lessons that come with the struggle. Strength and perseverance come with the struggle. A better work ethic and drive come with the struggle. It’s okay to get your hands dirty and have to put in the grind for what you want. In the end, it makes getting there even more satisfying.

Kevin Hart Challenges Beyoncé, Dwayne Johnson and More to Donate Towards Harvey Relief

As we all know, the city of Houston and surrounding areas have been hit heavy by Hurricane Harvey. The catastrophic flooding has left at least ten dead, and thousands displaced from their homes. Seeing the footage has been heartbreaking and I continue to keep everyone affected in my thoughts and prayers.

Kevin Hart decided to step up and create a relief fund of his own for the victims,  and challenged different celebs like Beyoncé, Dwayne Johnson, Steve Harvey, and others to donate too.

“I think we’ve participated in a lot of challenges on the internet. Some meaningful, some meaningless, but we’ve all done them. At this point, I’m going to start a real challenge.”

Kevin has already committed to donating $50,000, and raised closed to $200K since starting the fund yesterday. You can donate at the link below!

Other celebrities are using their platforms to help as well, like the Houston Texans’ own JJ Watt, who’s raised almost $1.5 MILLION dollars through YouCaring. Many have donated, but others in the surrounding areas have even taking their boats out to Houston to help rescue people! That’s what it’s all about, helping each other when we’re in need. Since, yet again, it seems like the government couldn’t care less…but I digress.

Kudos to Kevin, JJ, and everyone else getting involved! Continue to pray for and help these people hit by this storm in any way you can.

 

 

Words of Wisdom: “Hard Work Pays Off”-Kevin Hart

Kevin Hart is a prime example of the saying, “Hard work pays off!”

Kevin Hart is definitely a dude that I’m inspired by, simply because he works his tail off to get to where he wants to be and to STAY THERE. 

The first time that I remember seeing him was his lead role in 2004’s Soul Plane. I would see his face in supporting roles in movies here and there, but nowhere near the level he is at now! Some people think that Kevin just kind of started out (his 2009 comedy special Kevin Hart: I’m a Grown Little Man helped him grow). No, this guy has been working at it for a LONG time. He may have just started popping over the past 8 years or so, but Kevin’s career really spans probably 20 years, or close to it!

Kevin’s journey in general reminds me that there are no shortcuts to success! You have to put in the work, and, even still, you will face a lot of rejection in spite of it, which can be discouraging. However, when you know and believe in your passion and purpose, you can’t help but keep going. You HAVE to put in the work, though, believing that, one day, you will get to the top of your mountain. When you do, you have to work even harder to stay there. Hard work pays off!

Comedian Jay Pharoah definitely kills it with his impressions, effortlessly being able to imitate A-list stars like Denzel Washington, Kevin Hart, and Eddie Murphy!

This clip of his impressions is a throwback, but it still makes me laugh! And I don’t know about y’all, but I need a laugh this morning. Mondays are rough!
