Inspirational Jam: “Miracles”-Mambo Sauce

“Man, in life you gotta go for it…go do it. No matter what you go through to get through it, you gotta get to it…”

I’ve loved this song from go-go band Mambo Sauce since I was in high school. The message of the song will forever ring true, so I wanted to feature it as today’s Inspirational Jam.

The band’s song, “Miracles,” was a big hit around the D.C, Maryland, and Virginia area when it first came out in 2007. It had a positive message to encourage people to either get started on their goals or keep working on them. The only thing that can really stop you is your own pride and fear. With true hunger, dedication, resilience, and hard work, anything can happen. I know that’s mad cliche but it’s real. That’s been my life. And even if you don’t get quite where you wanted to be, you’ll end up farther along than you would be if you sat back and did nothing.

I’m a firm believer that you ultimately get back what you put into your gift. It’s not always easy or simple. In fact, it gets really hard. But if your goals are truly something you want to make happen, you gotta go for it with everything you’ve got.

Inspirational Jam: “Beautiful Life”-Chuck Brown feat. Wale

“I thought about how good this life is…back in the day, it wasn’t always like this…”

                         —Chuck Brown (“Beautiful Life”)

Chuck Brown, the famed godfather of go-go music, is and always will be in Washington, D.C., and the DMV as a whole. Being from around there, I grew up hearing him on the radio all the time  On August 22, he would’ve celebrated his 81st birthday, so I would like to honor his legacy and memory with this track.

The song “Beautiful Life” was the title track of Chuck’s last album, released posthumously in August 2014. Featuring my favorite rapper Wale, it’s all about being grateful for and enjoying the life you have, even if you aren’t some big time star. I need to hear this one every now and then, because it serves as a reminder to focus on the important things in life—faith, family, friends, etc. It’s a reminder to, instead of focusing on what I don’t have, to enjoy the beautiful life I DO have and the wonderful people that surround me.
