Jaden Smith brought in his 21st birthday with a selfless act of love for the homeless community in Los Angeles!
On July 8, the musician has his first pop up event with his I Love You Restaurant, a vegan food truck. The truck served members of the homeless community in LA’s Skid Row region
“I Love You Restaurant is a movement that is all about giving people what they deserve—healthy, vegan food for free,” Jaden shared in a photo of the truck on Instagram. “Today, we launched our first one-day food truck pop-up in Downtown LA. Keep a lookout because this is the first one of many.”
Many celebrities including Kevin Hart, Bella Thorne, and Yara Shahidi commended his efforts. I do as well. Homelessness is up 16% in LA and is a serious problem in this country. While more needs to be done to actually get people out of the streets, it’s great that Jaden is doing what he can to bring them healthy meals to get through the day. I hope to see more of these pop-ups in the future!
Priyanka Chopra was recently in the news for traveling with UNICEF to Ethiopia to share with refugee and native children in the area. It was a big deal as the organization continues to work to help provide education in the country.
As a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Priyanka got to travel to the country and meet with many refugee children and young people living in the Bambasi refugee camp, home to 17,000 refugees largely from Sudan, and Hitsats and Adi-Harush camps, where 55,000 refugees from Eritrea live.
“Children uprooted from their homes by war and disaster endure the most disruption to their lives,” Priyanka shared. “They miss out on education, healthcare and stability, which makes them extremely vulnerable to violence, abuse or exploitation.”
The actress got to see the refugee schools which were packed with students eager to learn and grow in spite of their circumstances. She danced and took pictures with them, but also listened to their stories and dreams. UNICEF is currently working with the government to help train teachers and provide books and other supplies, as well as building schools and classrooms.
“What I saw in Ethiopia is the capacity of human beings to empathize with and alleviate human suffering,” Priyanka shared. “Ethiopia is a shining example of what we – individuals, communities, and governments – can do to help those who have been displaced by conflict and humanitarian disasters by allowing an open-door policy to refugees and providing protection to those seeking asylum in the country.”
Watch clips of Priyanka’s time there below!
Universal access to education in our world is so important to carve the young minds coming up. Glad to see that Priyanka is standing strong with UNICEF and brought smiles to the faces of so many!
Ahead of the release of Avengers: Endgame, some of the cast from the movie collaborated with Disney to host a major charity event for sick children.
Actors Robert Downey Jr., Brie Larson, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd, and Jeremy Renner joined Disney CEO Bob Iger at Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim for a fun day with kids near the area. The event celebrated a $5 million grant to benefit children’s hospitals! That grant includes both cash and toys. Disney also plans to give $1 million of the donation to the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
During this special day, the cast honored these children and their families with a special ceremony where the grant was announced. “The kids that are here today are actually the ones that inspire us because you are the embodiment of what these characters are that we represent on screen,” Brie shared during the event. The cast also took pictures with kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Anaheim and Garden Grove and played with Avengers toys
No matter how big he gets, Kevin Durant will never forget about home! The basketball star came back to Suitland, MD, on January 23, 2018 to officially open his own center to serve the community.
The Durant Center will serve low-income and underserved students in Prince George’s County, MD, assisting them with college applications and graduation. The facility will offer academic, financial, and social resources to help these students attain their goals for school and their future careers. “When my foundation partnered withCollege Track last year, we said from day one we wanted it to live inside a facility we could develop for Prince George’s County,” Kevin shared in an interview. “The opening of the Durant Center is truly a dream come true for me and my family.”
It’s no surprise to me to see KD launching this center. I’m from PG County, and I’ve seen and read about his giving back to the area, specifically when it comes to education. It’s important here and nationwide, especially in areas where some kids feel hopeless and without help. Kids everywhere should have access to resources and help from mentors and teachers to further their education. I know that this center will be extremely beneficial to students and I look forward to seeing more great news from the facility.
This video made me smile today, so I definitely wanted to share!
Dwayne Johnson grew up struggling and watching his parents work hard to provide for their family. When Dwayne became a famed wrestler and eventually broke into acting, he made sure that whatever his parents needed was taken care of. Even now that his parents are divorced, he still takes care of them.
For Christmas this year, Dwayne surprised his mama with a “Golden Ticket,” much like Willy Wonka. Instead of a trip to the chocolate factory though, his mom got another huge surprise: a choice of any house she wanted anywhere on the planet! Of course, she was in absolute shock and Dwayne was able to capture her reaction on video.
For Dwayne, it was nothing for him to do it. Not only because he’s one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood, but he truly loves and respects his mom for all she’s done. “I always say, if you got a good mama, then you gotta pretty good shot at becoming a decent human being,” he shared in the IG post. “And somehow, somewhere along the line, I became one lucky SOB to be able to make stuff like this happen.”
