“Daddy used to tell me, ‘Look up at the stars
It’s been a long time, but remember who you are…'”
With Beyoncé going back on tour for her “Renaissance” album (Oh, I’m GOING), I had to share “Find Your Way Back” for today’s Inspirational Jam. Having forgotten my own gifts recently, this song hits a little closer to home for me now. I hope having this track can uplift those who may have forgotten their own gifts or purpose.
Any of us who have seen Bey’s special Black Is King and listened to the album, “The Gift,” know that the works are in conjunction with the story of “The Lion King.” Beyoncé, of course, was featured in the 2019 live-action remake of the film, alongside Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and the legendary James Earl Jones.
“Find Your Way Back” is a powerful track that reflects real life. Just like Simba in “The Lion King,” we ALL have moments where we forget who we are and what we’re meant for. We have moments of self-doubt. We’ve stayed hidden in our comfort zones because they feel good and we don’t have to face our real lives. We’ve walked away from those who love us and the destiny we’re called for because it’s all gotten so overwhelming or discouraging.
This song is a reminder that we can find our way back, that we need to find our way back to who we are supposed to be. We each have a purpose for being on this earth, a purpose that may help others around us. Don’t forget that.
Like the song says: “It’s a big, big world, but you got it, baby.” You’re on a marathon and you have to run YOUR race.
