For today’s #MondayMotivation, I want to share a quote from writer Furaha Joyce. I hope that this encourages someone to stop shrinking themselves in life.
Too often, we play small to make other people feel comfortable. We stay quiet about our ideas simply to fit in or not shake the table too much. We dim our light out of fear or thoughts of rejection. However, over time, that can be incredibly stifling and frustrating.
I can always tell when it’s time to move on to something new or go to a higher level. Not because I get frustrated or stressed about the work, because that’s going to happen regardless of what you do. For me, I find myself downplaying my skills or keeping quiet about my ideas to fit in with the status quo. In certain instances, no matter what I have said or done have kept me running on the same hamster wheel, which really means that it’s likely time to move towards a new opportunity or goal. I get into too much of a rhythm and don’t even try too hard anymore. So much so, that the work isn’t a challenge anymore. I go through the motions without any passion whatsoever and that is the frustrating part.
While it can be frustrating to feel like you have to shrink, it can be really nerve-wracking to step into something new. Especially when you’ve been in the same place (job, relationship, etc.) for a long time. But wouldn’t you rather be nervous trying something new for your life than shrinking yourself to fit in a small box?
