As March is Women’s History Month, I typically have been trying to share more female voices throughout the month when it comes to Monday Motivation, Words of Wisdom, and Inspirational Jams. I certainly will be doing that this month, starting with this powerful video from actress Lauren London for today’s Words of Wisdom.
This video is for all of those, myself included, who struggle to let go of control of your life, especially when things don’t go according to plan.
This clip is actually a part of a larger conversation between Lauren and life coach Jay Shetty for his podcast. I actually plan on finishing watching that today. In her talk with Jay, Lauren opens up about grieving the loss of the love of her life, Nipsey Hussle, recovering from trauma, reconnecting with God, and so much more.
Today’s Words of Wisdom clip stood out because the actress spoke about the importance and power behind letting go of the things we can’t control. “It is the ultimate test of surrender, because, at the end of the day, as much control as we think we have, we do not,” Lauren stated.
We all plan out ideas for our lives, but we have to be willing to be flexible in our planning. That was one of the most important lessons I’ve had to learn in both my personal and professional life. Why? Because life does not always go as planned. Sometimes, circumstances come along that really disrupt what we have going on and the directions we thought our lives would go. Some things are small, while others are completely life-changing.
It’s hard to surrender that control, but, when you finally do…whew. You begin to take one day, one moment at a time, and you appreciate more of what you have, rather than zeroing in so much on what’s ahead. You have more peace, even when life has been turned upside down. That’s true power.
