The late, great Maya Angelou delivered today’s #MondayMotivation quote. It’s a reminder that what we think of ourselves plays a huge role in what we do and accomplish.
It’s not often what other people think of us that holds us back. It’s not our resources (or lack thereof). It all starts with what you think about YOURSELF. That determines your confidence in who you are and what you do. When you lack confidence, you struggle to give your all towards your goals because you don’t necessarily believe that you can achieve them.
The lack of confidence we have in ourselves is indeed the most difficult thing to overcome. In order to achieve more, we first have to believe that we are capable of more. That takes some serious self-work. When we lack confidence, we tend to pull back from stepping fully into our goals. However, the best action to get past that is to act. It takes speaking light and life into yourself, even when you don’t feel like it. For some, it may take inspirational words or music (which is why I hope Imperfectly B can uplift and motivate you to believe in who you are). For others, it may take working through issues in therapy.
For me, it’s taken disconnection from the highlight reels of social media to rediscover my purpose, my gifts, and my confidence. Sometimes, I get so caught up in what other people are doing that I believe I’m falling behind or not doing enough. That I’m not enough. When really, not to brag, but I’m pretty great. Not every day is filled with self-love and confidence, but most of my days are now.
