Words of Wisdom: “Your Goal Is Not An Emergency To Others”-Tobe Nwigwe

In this clip, Tobe advises viewers to stick to what they said they were going to do and realize that their goals are their own to fulfill. “Whatever your goal is, that’s your goal,” he shared. “Stop looking at other people like they’re supposed to do your goal for you.”

I think this Words of Wisdom video from rapper Tobe Nwigwe is one that a lot of people need to see. If it hits, let it stick!

In this clip, Tobe advises viewers to stick to what they said they were going to do and realize that their goals are their own to fulfill. “Whatever your goal is, that’s your goal,” he shared. “Stop looking at other people like they’re supposed to do your goal for you.”

WHEW. Who felt that punch to the gut? Just me? Okay.

I’m guilty of not understanding why people in my life specifically did not support my endeavors, especially when I first started blogging. However, I learned quickly that nobody is obligated to support or work with me and I shouldn’t be mad if they don’t, even if they know me.

Everyone has their own lives and responsibilities, and, ultimately, their work is going to trump whatever you have going on. That was a hard pill to swallow when I was younger and didn’t know any better. The way I saw it is that I’m a loyal person and I would (and have!) dropped everything to be there for people. Which isn’t always a great thing…but that’s a whole other post I need to write. So I felt like I was owed the same…but that’s not always the case.

Often, the case is that you’re working on your stuff SOLO DOLO out here. And often, as you grow, the people who rock with you the most are people who have never met you a day in their lives!

Now granted, you may be blessed to have people who work alongside you to help make your goals happen. Keep them around! Others of us may just have people who give you a slight hand clap or praise when the work is done. Either way, YOUR goals are YOUR responsibility. YOUR dreams are YOURS to put the work in for. Don’t expect others to drop their stuff just for you.
