This #MondayMotivation quote is brief but still powerful to me. I hope that it encourages someone today who is unsure of themselves and where they want to go next.
Trying something new is scary though, right? Nerve-racking, even. I get it. I had this conversation with myself the other day about taking on a new writing gig on a topic that I knew NOTHING about: electric bikes. I’ve never even ridden an electric bike!
But my editor was convinced that I could do it because of my writing experience so I figured, “Hey, why not?” The content is helpful and the pay rate is niceee. The least I can do is try and, if it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out. If it does, though? Talk about a nice increase in my income! One of my goals this year was creating multiple streams of income and I’ve been doing that. This right here is another opportunity, which may fail or…it may succeed and set me up for a great second half of 2020.
Short and sweet, you can’t get ahead if you don’t at least try. Trying new things is always scary because we’re afraid to fail. We all have things on the line and we don’t want to lose them. Well, maybe it’s because I’ve been listening to and watching too much of Hamilton but I really don’t want to lose out of moving forward in life simply because I was too afraid to give things a shot. Now, that doesn’t mean I don’t believe in strategic moves, but if I know that I have experience in something, I’m not holding back simply because I’m scared I’ll mess it up or it won’t work. If that happens, at least I know and I can try something else!
I challenge you as I continue to challenge myself not to hold back from new and better opportunities just because you’re nervous it won’t work out. If whatever “thing” you try your hand at doesn’t work, at least it was a learning experience. But you’ll never know where you could go or what you could be if you don’t at least make an attempt!
