Inspirational Jam: “Love Myself”-Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee Ellis Ross

“Got nothing to share…maybe I should put my phone down. I don’t really care if everybody likes me. I just wanna love myself…”

I absolutely LOVE this song by Tracee Ellis Ross and wanted to have it be this week’s Inspirational Jam.

“Love Myself” is about just that: the journey of loving yourself. We get caught up in comparing ourselves to others on social media and needing validation from other people sometimes. We feel like we need to change aspects of who we are, forgetting that we are enough.  This was a really good reminder for me. The song was featured on the soundtrack for The High Note, which stars Tracee alongside Dakota Johnson and Ice Cube.

Here’s the movie’s plot:

Set in the dazzling world of the L.A. music scene comes the story of Grace Davis (Tracee Ellis Ross), a superstar whose talent, and ego, have reached unbelievable heights. Maggie (Dakota Johnson) is Grace’s overworked personal assistant who’s stuck running errands but still aspires to her dream of becoming a music producer. Things come to a head when Grace’s long-time manager (Ice Cube) presents the singer with a choice that could alter the course of her career, and Grace must choose between playing it safe or listening to her heart in a decision that could change her life forever.

This also is Tracee’s debut single too! She previously modeled and most people know her for her acting, so to see her putting herself out there as a singer inspired me. It couldn’t have been easy, especially since she’s the daughter of the legendary Diana Ross! Tracee killed this one.
