“Don’t lose your grip on the dreams of the past…you must fight just to keep them alive…”
Everyone’s heard of band Survivor‘s 1982 hit “Eye of the Tiger.” You’ve heard it on TV, at sports events, and on Rocky III. Because it is so popular, it’s a bit of a cliché for an Inspirational Jam but, occasionally, the lyrics hit me a little different. This week was one of those times.
A tiger is known as one of the most vicious predators in the jungle. When hunting, it stays focused on its prey and stealthily pounces when the time is right. This song is basically saying that that is how we have to be with our own goals. We can’t let outside circumstances, people, or even ourselves distract us from getting what we want. I think too that tigers and champions find a great thrill in the hunts, the fights, the challenges. When it’s been a difficult road, it makes winning that more satisfying. But we have to stay focused to get there.
