I had to make this quote by playwright George Bernard Shaw this week’s #MondayMotivation because it definitely reflects my life. I hope you guys draw some motivation from it as well.
When I first started freelance writing, I didn’t have anybody willing to give me a shot at first. For good reason–I had no real experience. I knew I had talent and a voice that could impact others, but I still had to learn and grow. I couldn’t just sit still and wait for other people to notice me. Since I couldn’t find any opportunities, I created and worked on my own entertainment website, The Spotlight, to grow in my writing, editing, and interviewing experience. People were impressed by my initiative and work which opened the door for more work.
I consistently work to create the life I want. If and when projects and work don’t come, I make my opportunities. Shoot, I work on my own things even if they do come because it’s always nice to have back up plans. Initiative is what separates the great from the okay and even the good. You can’t just wait for things to come to you. Faith without works really is dead. So are dreams without grind.
