“Look out ’cause here I come and I’m marching on to the beat I drum. I’m not scared to be seen. I make no apologies…this is me…”
So I have never seen The Greatest Showman, but it’s on my list. Especially because Zendaya and Zac Efron are in it. I saw the live rehearsal version of this song and was moved to tears for real. I had to make it the Inspirational Jam this week.
“This Is Me” is led by Keala Settle (Lettie Lutz) alongside the ensemble cast. In the film, she, along with this group of circus performers, have been misjudged and characterized as freaks. However, the troupe makes no apologies for they are, and refuse to dim their light because it makes others feel uncomfortable.
I love it because it relates to real life. We can sometimes let the words and actions of others, or even our own simmering insecurities, makes us shy away from who we are and what we’re meant to do. I challenge you, as I continue to challenge myself, to stand up proudly and march to your beat. Drown out any naysayers, or even those little doubts in your head. Be yourself, and do what you were meant to do.
