Words of Wisdom: “Believe in Yourself”-Trent Shelton

I wanted to share this amazing video from motivational speaker Trent Shelton today, because it really spoke to me and reminded me of a harsh reality. You truly do have to believe in yourself, even when others don’t.

As Trent speaks on in his Instagram video below, none of us are entitled to anybody’s help or support. I don’t care if it’s from your family, your employer, the people in your hometown, whoever. Nobody HAS to help you. You shouldn’t be mad it, and you definitely shouldn’t wait around for them to! “Never postpone your vision waiting on help,” Trent says in the video. “Educate yourself to elevate your life.”

Watch Trent deliver this major message below…and read that caption!

Listen, as real as I can put it. This world doesn’t owe you nothing. People don’t have to support you. People don’t have to believe in you. People don’t have to give you opportunities. People don’t have to give you a thing. Stop thinking just because you think you deserve it, people are going to reward it. Just because you feel entitlement to it, people are going to give it. It don't work like that. What works? Is you putting in the work. Don’t waste your life waiting on somebody to do something for your life. If you want something to happen for your life, you got to make it happen. Ain’t nobody going to do for you what you won’t do for yourself. Create the opportunities that they won’t give you. Create your own platform so you won’t have to depend on theirs. Become so great at what you do, that they need you way more than you need them. Listen, Stop complaining about what people aren’t doing for you, and start focusing on what you can do for yourself. That’s how you’ll make something happen for your life. There’s a reason why your vision is yours and not theirs. Nobody is going to care about it or should care about it like you do. Now, I’ve been blessed to have a good amount of support for what I do and what I plan to do when it comes to this site and my writing in general.  But a major lesson that I had to learn (and am still learning in some aspects) is that nobody HAS to support me. Nobody has to make magic happen for me or give me opportunities to help elevate my life. When you expect that, eight times out of 10, you’ll be sorely disappointed. Nobody has to automatically show me love, which is why I’m forever grateful for those that do. In the end, it’s up to ME to make something happen in my life. It’s up to ME to work hard and keep the faith, trusting that God will be the One to reward my efforts. Because if I’m waiting on people down here to do it…pshhh I’ll forever be up a creek without a paddle.

Just because you’re good, or even great, at what you do, doesn’t mean that people are automatically going to give you a chance. You’re not just entitled to it either. You have to believe in yourself and keep pushing for higher heights in spite of A LOT. In spite of other people not understanding your vision. In spite of being rejected from opportunities that you truly deserved. In spite of people not supporting you at the level you think they should. Keep pushing through regardless, knowing that your vision and your true support will come soon!
