Last year, headlines swarmed around the heartbreaking story of a 2-year-old boy killed by an alligator at Disney World. Now his parents have decided to turn the tragedy into something positive.
Matt and Melissa Graves are paying wonderful tribute to son Lane‘s memory with The Lane Thomas Foundation! The foundation will seek to help families of kids who need organ transplants in Omaha by paying for travel and living expenses, while the children are being treated at Children’s Hospital or Nebraska Medicine. Already, 15 families have received assistance from the foundation for non-medical expenses! It’s a great idea to honor their little boy.
“Lane had a very special light about him. We promised him at his wake we would turn this tragedy into good for many families,” Matt said during a press conference.
I can’t even begin to imagine the hurt and pain that Matt and Melissa have gone through. However, I think it’s truly awesome that they are doing this in honor of Lane. It’s a struggle for any family to have to see their child go through a transplant, and then deal with with the financial burdens along with all of that is even worse. It’s great that this new foundation will help to ease those burdens a little bit.
Matt and Melissa are in my thoughts, and I hope that this foundation is successful and helps as many families as possible!
