Inspirational Jam: “Carry On”-Martha Wash

I hold tight to what I know what it’s right. Still can hear the way Mama used to say, ‘Never no, never let your spirit bend…never, never give in to the end.’ I carry on…”

-Martha Wash

I first heard Martha Wash‘s “Carry On” on an episode of season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. It was a song special to Ru, and he used this song to challenge two queens, Sahara Davenport (RIP!) and Morgan McMichaels, to lip sync for their lives to avoid elimination from the show. Martha herself was there as a judge!

The message of the song is what stuck with me. No matter what mountains come, or how deep the valleys get, you gotta eventually get up and carry on. I struggle with that sometimes, and have lost my way a little bit a few times in life. I’ve wanted to quit so bad and settle for an ordinary life, but something inside wouldn’t let me. I got up, dusted myself off, and carried on. That’s what this song is all about.

So, if you stumble or even fall right on your face, be determined that you’re going to get up and keep going on!
